Saint Laurent

Before seeing the images of the YSL SS24 show the brand presented in Berlin, on June 12th, I stumbled on the pictures of Yamazaki Kento (Japanese actor) who was attending the show, and it took me a while to realize who he reminded me of. And I got it: the modern version of Gerard Philipe in Fanfan la Tulipe (a 1952 remake of the original that came out in 1925) french comedy, directed by Christian-Jaque.The film starred Gérard Philipe and Gina Lollobrigida. Yamazaki's image was also a continuation of the "YSL men" look on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. I have great respect for Anthony Vaccarello, but this... I am not objecting to the romantic look for modern males, I just don't think that actual dressing should bring memories of historical comedies, especially, when models on a runway look so serious. And the big, over-the-top shoulders? Mr. Vaccarello is trying to convince us for about 3 seasons that that's a look. So far - not much success...However, the black and white color palette is always welcome.

But...maybe, since YSL now is a film production company, the 4th version of the Fanfan is in the works?
